Clean up the lines

The shading is pretty much spot on, the details are fine, but the lines are all wobbling, so clean those up.
Also what's up with the sketches at the side?

JFDP13 responds:

They are ghosts. Fallen friends.
And yeah, lineart isn't as clean as could be, but this time i liked that wobbling effect :)
Thanks for the review!

Drool

This looks absolutely delicious!
Keep at it, love you bringing an unique spectrum to the art portal!

Ironchefgriffin responds:

Woo! Thanks, I'll try to have one dish every weekday for the next couple weeks!

eh

I think the eye is a bit out of place, it's not really fitting. Also, I'd like to say the head is pretty big and the overall anatomy's pretty wacky, even for chibi anime.
The red background colour kind of stings my eyes, so I suggest changing that.

supersexybeast responds:

it's supposed to be out of wack. it's how i roll. :3

The colours

The colours are delicious!
I love the hue shifting! Are there any special tricks to it, or is it all about feeling your way to the right shade? I'd love to know!

I think it'd look nice with a simple background though, even if just a simple shadow.

Sashura responds:

the hue shifting is done with a gradient, but you can definitely achieve the same effect with blending close colors. thanks!

the grass

the grass looks very thin, and the shapes of the characters are pretty basic (streched spheres), I suggest modelling something more advanced that used different textures and materials.

pupuhugr responds:

This is pretty much the worse excuse for a 7 I've ever seen. Have you never seen thin grass? I'm looking at a whole bunch of reference of it right now. And yes, I obviously know these are basic characters, I modeled them. This was a fiber fx test and an sss test on the wings. Even the most basic of things can have a beautiful purpose havegum.

So much detail!

Love it man! I find it amazing how much detail it has. The style is consequent and the texture of the tree is downright delicious!
I'm not entirely sure what the thing left on the screen is though, seems a bit out of place.

UltraPitchFork responds:

things on the left are suppose to be some kind of swarming bats or something

minimalistic sort of

I think it looks good being nice minimalistic and all, but I think all the detail on the brick wall ruins the effect. It'd look better with a more simplified texture, maybe only hinting to the entire texture.

Pasturn responds:

Yeah, it does kind of take away from the picture. I thought about doing something like that, but hell, it was 8 something in the morning. Thanks for the critique, though, I can see where you're coming from with that.

well

It's a bit, simple, which is a good thing for a platformer, but maybe not so much for the art portal.

I think the first thing I noticed is that there are no facial features. Now this is probably intentional, and not a problem if the other characters in the game are unique and easy to tell apart, but usually facial features reveals a lot for the gamer about the character.
Now, if you want a mystical sort of character, then ignore all this - it looks good!

Furthermore, the pose is very stiff and does not tell much about the character, so you might want to change that. Oh, and unless his tummy and nose weights a ton, the pose is unbalanced. He's leaning backward so much he'd fall. Also, some detail for his hands would do.

Well, that's pretty much what I can comment on this thing, I really liked it though, keep in mind I'm just being picky!

Cope2K responds:

I totally get the no facial features thing. It will be fixed once I texture it. The post is just like that for now since I haven't rigged it yet, It will be fixed too. Thanks for the crit it's a ton of help. Glad you like it!

PS. Love it when people are picky :D

Simply great!

It's simplified and simply great!
I love the duotone water surface and bubbles.
I think the water is slightly too lucid though. I think there should be a slight disturbance where the bird is underwater as well as a slight color change.
Anywho, it's a great little thing you've got here. I just love the texture on the birds head.
Happy friday frontpage flood!

J-qb responds:

Thanks. I didnt want to add too much to it, so thats why I left the water plain.

Aweso!

Very nice and random - random in a good way!
I don't get the shadow the glass throws though, It looks like it's a wall right behind the glass, but I can't really find that to make sense either.
Other than that, I suppose the octopus' tentacles could've been redder underwater.

Oh and recheck the perspective on the ice cube.
I still love the looks of the overall piece though!
Happy friday flood!

Fifty-50 responds:

Thank you man. I'm also regretting how I colored the glass. Thank you.
